Investigation of the factors affecting the performance of employees performing physical work in the hospitality sector

The application of key performance indicators plays an important role in the field of work, business, education, and even sports and healthcare in order to monitor the process of achieving goals. Poorly defined indicators and metrics can generate unwanted partial results, results or side effects during the processes, which can reduce the success of individuals and organizations and, last but not least, can stand in the way of their development. In most countries of Europe, but in terms of the research target area, it can definitely be stated that the lack of skilled labor is a current and not negligible problem. Based on the experience of the past years, it is increasingly difficult to find a reliable, loyal employee who performs his profession at an appropriate level. In the case of foreign workers, inadequate knowledge of the German language causes additional difficulties for both employees and employers. My goal is to define a performance measurement system for manual workers, during which manual workers will be able to give the best of their knowledge, exceed expectations and become interested in the implementation of the employer's vision and business plans, so that their personal development is also ensured. This results in a cooperation during which the organization will be able to achieve the greatest possible efficiency with the existing number of employees. This alleviates the ever-increasing shortage of skilled labor.

Measuring improvements of the education system in the COVID-19 pandemic – A case study of Serbia

The purpose of this paper is the comparative analysis of traditional education and e-learning by the application of key performance indicators. The general objective of the study is to indicate the advantages and disadvantages of traditional education and e-learning through the analysis and comparison of these two forms of education by applying defined key performance indicators. The research was carried out in 15 gymnasiums and vocational high schools in the Republic of Serbia, with a sample of 11.204 students (the school year 2018–19) and 11.251 students (the school year 2019–20). The results of the research and conducted comparative analysis presented in this paper indicate that e-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has significant advantages over traditional education, such as a reduction in the percentage of students who were sent to the make-up exam and who did not complete the school year, a reduction of the number of imposed disciplinary measures and absences from classes per student at the end of the school year and an increasing percentage of excellent students at the school level at the end of the school year. Based on the results, recommendations for improving the education process by implementing e-learning in developing countries are proposed. This paper presents a valuable resource for educators and scholars in defining the elements that can improve student learning outcomes, motivation and satisfaction levels.

GOOD, BETTER & THE BEST SECURITY

If the goal of an organisation is to build a culture of cyber security awareness the cyber security leadership and the security team must be approachable and engaged with the business. This may sound like a simple mission but it's not. Cyber security and IT in general suffers from a very binary ”Is it on or off?” view of the organisation. in contrast to the business which is far more nuanced in its perspectives ”on-ish, off-ish or on & off at the very same time - business is rarely 100% certain of anything - especially in these turbulent and dynamic times. The desire to demonstrate or measure security through the application of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) becomes counter intuitive to actual progress in strengthening the organisational cyber posture. The number of ”insert security metric here” does little to advance the organisation culture and awareness as the metric is likely to be meaningless outside of the narrow field of vision of the security team. If you are genuinely interested in improving or building a culture of security within your organisation it's time to spend less time measuring and more time communicating.

MANAGING THE PROMOTION OF THE COMPANY`S INNOVATION POLICY: KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI) METHODOLOGY

The article defines and reveals the problematic issues of the theory of development of methodological tools for managing the implementation of innovation policy of the organisation. The expediency and necessity of application of key performance indicators (KPI) as a relevant tool for assessing the effectiveness of management of innovation policy implementation of organisations is substantiated. Methodological approaches to the formation of a system of key performance indicators that provide a systematic approach to a comprehensive and integrated assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency of innovation policy implementation on the basis of the proposed methodology of building a "tree of KPI objectives" are proposed; methodological approaches to their application as target, as well as intermediate criteria and indicators of the effectiveness of innovation policy implementation are proposed.

A comprehensive framework tool for performance assessment of NBS for hydro-meteorological risk management

This paper describes an assessment framework tool to analyze the performance of nature-based solutions (NBS) for hydro-meteorological risk management. The tool is based on multi-criteria decision analysis within the context of NBSs, an umbrella concept currently in focus that promotes nature and provides ecological and socio-economic benefits. The proposed tool includes the selection and application of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the co-benefits and costs associated with the implementation of NBSs. To ensure high societal impact, the tool relies on a participatory approach. Stakeholder preferences are taken into account within the assessment process. As such, the assessment framework can be used as a design and selection tool for NBSs and other alternative measures, including grey and hybrid solutions. The proposed procedure can be adapted to the specific socio-environmental context and hydro-meteorological risk by tailoring the set of relevant KPIs. The assessment framework is useful for monitoring the implemented measures and to document their effectiveness. The methodology provides quantitative and transparent documentation of hydro-meteorological risk management processes, useful for decision- and policy-makers, and stakeholders dealing with NBS measures.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI) AND WAYS OF THEIR APPLICATION IN THE FITNESS INDUSTRY OF UKRAINE

Introduction. The article examines modern approaches to assessing the performance of fitness club employees based on the use of key performance indicators (KPI) and analyzes operational and strategic KPI. The advantages and disadvantages of using key performance indicators (KPI) to evaluate the work of fitness club staff are determined. The purpose of the work is to determine the key performance indicators (KPI) of the fitness club staff and ways of their application in the fitness industry of Ukraine. Materials and methods: analysis; synthesis; comparison. Results. In the course of the study, the peculiarities of the application of key performance indicators (KPI) in fitness clubs of Ukraine are determined. The priority of the indicators should be determined taking into account their importance and necessity, that is, determine those indicators, the implementation of which contributes to the achievement of the goal. Examples of KPI that can ensure the effectiveness of the personal fitness trainer and the company's sales department are given. The implementation and effective use of key indicators will allow fitness clubs not only to achieve the set goal, but also to identify a number of problems that "inhibit" its achievement. It is shown that in order to create an effective system of key indicators of a fitness club, both professional skills (knowledge of the subject area, work experience, qualifications) and competent intuition and a creative approach are necessary. The advantages of using KPI for employees of fitness clubs are understanding the purpose of their work, awareness of personal benefit in case of success; analysis of the activities of subordinates, identification of problem areas, assessment of the quality of work of staff and managers; timely adjustment of plans and goals of the fitness club; feedback between employees and management. In this case, the main shortcomings are the incorrect interpretation of key performance indicators; excessive number of criteria; the need for global staff retraining, staff turnover. Conclusion. The future development and application of KPI in fitness clubs largely depends on the market conditions of the Ukrainian fitness market and the desire to integrate into the international market, as well as on the speed of management development and the effectiveness of management analysis in domestic fitness clubs.

An introduction to key performance indicators for medical physicists.

Qualified medical physicists (QMPs) are in a unique position to influence the creation and application of key performance indicators (KPIs) across diverse practices in health care. Developing KPIs requires the involvement of stakeholders in the area of interest. Fundamentally, KPIs should provide actionable information for the stakeholders using or viewing them. During development, it is important to strongly consider the underlying data collection for the KPI, making it automatic whenever possible. Once the KPI has been validated, it is important to setup a review cycle and be prepared to adjust the underlying data or action levels if the KPI is not performing as intended. Examples of specific KPIs for QMPs of common scopes of practice are provided to act as models to aid in implementation. KPIs are a useful tool for QMPs, regardless of the scope of practice or practice environment, to enhance the safety and quality of care being delivered.

KEY INDICATORS OF INNOVATION PERFORMANCE: PERCEPTION OF SIGNIFICANCE AND PRACTICAL APPLICATION

This paper is devoted to the study of the correlation between the perceived significance of indicators of innovation activity and their actual use at enterprises of the Russian manufacturing industry. A sample of 132 manufacturing enterprises in Russia was used for the analysis. It was found that the recognition of the significance and the actual use of financial and non-financial indicators varies significantly depending on the affiliation of companies to a particular innovation regime: radical innovators, technological innovators, effective producers, creators of value innovations and imitators. Three key performance indicators (KPIs) reflecting the company's focus on the introduction of technological innovations (the share of modern equipment in the company's technology park (taking into account the technological features of industries); the average time to adapt the acquired innovative product, days; the share of implemented patents from the total number of patents received by the organization) were recognized as important managers of companies belonging to technological and radical innovators (74.5, 76.9, 78.1%, respectively). Three key performance indicators reflecting customer orientation (the number of new categories of products or services introduced in the reporting year; the share of products certified according to international standards in the total production of the company; the percentage of innovative expenditures on the modernization of existing products/processes/business models in relation to the total innovative expenditures on products/processes/business models) were recognized as important companies classified as effective producers and creators of value innovations (83.4, 81.9, 76.8%, respectively).But at the same time, the study showed that the most commonly used indicators are sales growth from new products (88.7%); the share of patents implemented (74.3%); total R&D expenses per 1 thousand dollars of revenue in the current reporting period (89.2%). In summary, conclusions are drawn about the actual application of key performance indicators of innovation activity by companies.

Modern approaches to assessing the effectiveness of official activities of state civil and municipal employees

The authors propose to evaluate the effectiveness of personnel in the system of state civil and municipal service based on the calculation of the index of efficiency of professional performance of each employee and the formation on the basis of the obtained values of the rating of employees of a public authority or local self-government.

Application of KPI in HR management in the transition to lean manufacturing

The article presents an approach to determining key performance indicators (KPIs) as an element of the personnel management system of an industrial enterprise during the transition to lean manufacturing. The need for a multi-level complex of performance indicators, determined taking into account the hierarchy of enterprise management levels and the specifics of the transition to lean production as a complex step-by-step process, is substantiated. In accordance with international standards, a set of KPIs, differentiated by management levels and refl ecting the role of industrial enterprise personnel in the transition to lean manufacturing, is proposed.

The Role of Implementing KPIs to the Faculty Members in enhancing Higher Education Quality in Lebanon

The application of key performance indicators (KPIs) within institutions has proven to be difficult task. Until now, its effective implementation is considered one of the key determinants to the performance and success of a business. This research will explore the role of implementing KPIs for faculty members within higher education (HEI) in Lebanon. This study will seek to explore two key hypotheses (i) there is no statistically significant role of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for faculty members in quality assurance in higher education in Lebanon and hypothesis and (ii) there is a statistically significant role of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for faculty members in quality assurance in higher education in Lebanon. Hypothesis (ii) will prove to be true with the results for hypothesis one showing to be incorrect. A total of 200 participants from across different higher education institutions within Lebanon will be involved within the study.

Performance management on the shop floor – an investigation of KPI perception among managers and employees

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the application of key performance indicators (KPIs) on shop floor level in German small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The paper focuses on the examination of perception differences between shop floor employees and managers with regard to collection, calculation and consolidation of KPIs as well as visualization and motivational aspects.Design/methodology/approachTo examine the hypothesis on differing perceptions regarding KPIs, 27 qualitative interviews with shop floor employees and production managers within 6 SMEs from the German machinery and equipment industry were conducted on basis of a semi-structured guideline.FindingsThe findings show that shop floor employees self-assess a lack of relevant knowledge when it comes to understanding KPIs. Moreover, the results show that shop floor employees perceive the visualization of shop floor KPIs as insufficient and non-motivational. This goes along with the finding that managers are aware of the lacking benefit of KPIs resulting from the rather negative perception of shop floor employees. The interviewed managers recognize a strong potential for improvement of their KPI systems.Originality/valueThe interview results confirm the need to design a performance management system on the shop floor that considers and aligns both management and operations, is directed to the shop floor level, considers explicitly the perspective of employees and integrates motivational elements.

Global product development projects: measuring performance and monitoring the risks

This article investigates the development and application of key performance indicators for global product development. Two in-depth, longitudinal case studies with multinational Danish manufacturing companies were conducted, and highlight how key performance indicators, typically used for collocated, cross-functional product development, do not provide the predictive insight required to avoid the additional risks encountered in the global product development environment. Grounded in the case study results and building on established methodologies in performance measurement literature, a framework was developed and validated in two additional Danish companies to support project managers to develop: preventive indicators, which support the avoidance of identified risks, and outcome indicators, which support the measurement towards the attainment of project objectives. The study is unique as it is one of the very few longitudinal studies of engineering design activities in a global context, providing the in-depth contextual understanding towards key risks and their influence on performance; an important step to support researchers and practitioners with the development of preventive measures.

Application of key performance indicators for maintenance management of clinics facilities

The investment in the development of the existing portfolio of clinics, as well as in their maintenance and operation, constitutes 3–4% of the annual budgets of health maintenance organizations (HMOs) in Israel. These clinics are the primary facilities for the provision of health services. The research objective was the implementation of previously defined key performance indicators (KPIs) in a 42 clinic sample in order to: (1) assess the maintenance performance of the facilities, (2) intraand inter-benchmark the performance and efficiency, (3) establish a policy for the strategic and tactical maintenance management, and (4) set priorities in the maintenance plan. These actions should be part of a cycle for continuous improvement of the performance and maintenance of the facilities. This set of seven hybrid KPIs can be used for the leading and lagging analysis of the planning and control of facility maintenance. A case study is presented as an example of the applicability of the method.

Selection of Key Performance Indicators of Chosen Industry and their Application in Formation of Creditworthy Model

Abstract This paper is devoted to the issue of business performance. It is dedicated to more detailed elaboration of performance, key performance indicators, measurement and evaluation of the performance of selected industry applying Creditworthy model as well as risk factors influencing performance of businesses from given industry. Nowadays modern performance indicators are adopted as well as mathematical and statistical methods are applied in assessing business performance. In this paper this problem is solved by the application of correlation matrix constructed for a chosen indicators‘group in order to select key performance indicators. Subject for objective fulfilment was a group of businesses operating in the same Slovak industry. The most difficult point of solution was the selection of appropriate inputs for the construction of correlation matrix as well as the collecting of sufficient amount of relevant data to ensure analytically-based outputs. Benefit of this paper is formation of Creditworthy model with the application of key performance indicators and risk factors of businesses from selected industry. Creditworthy model designed in such a way allows to influence and measure the performance of given industry in terms of key performance indicators and to eliminate specific risks of businesses from given industry.

Modelling of Corporate Governance Performance Indicators

This article is focused on modelling of performance indicators for corporate governance, which are designed to measure the performance of a company along with environmental and social (ESG) indicators. The ESG indicators thus become important performance benchmarks for investors in the European Union and other parts of the world. Performance indicators in the Czech manufacturing industry were researched in Project No. P403/11/2085 Construction of Methods for Multi-Factorial Assessment of Company Complex Performance in Selected Sectors at the Faculty of Business and Management, Brno University of Technology (BUT FBM), funded by Grant Agency of the Czech Republic (GACR). The article intends to propose performance indicators of corporate governance suitable for companies in manufacturing industries per CZ-NACE. These performance indicators of corporate governance are the result of an extensive review and a theoretical assessment of numerous literary sources, various materials of international organizations (such as GRI, UNCTAD, IFAC, IFRS, EFFAS-DVFA, CFA), OECD Principles of Corporate Governance, and EU Green Paper, the essence of which was incorporated into the questionnaires used in the survey. Seventy-nine companies were selected from the compiled data base and personally contacted. These were legal enterprises with more than 250 employees by the EU criteria. Selection of significant indicators proceeded from the inlet database, analysed and verified by cluster analysis. The objective of cluster analysis working with all initial input indicators, obtained by the analysis of available expert sources and empirical research, was the identification of particularities of variables, having any impact on the results of other methods of subsequent research stages. Selection of significant indicators for reviewed industry from the input database was the aim. The purpose was not to substitute identified database, but to establish an alternative file of appropriate variables. The objective of further data processing was the reduction of original broad file of indicators, namely by expert analysis and subsequent decision made by the team of authors, representing the input for subsequent application of multi-dimensional statistical method. The factor analysis yielded four categories of corporate governance measurement areas: 1) Monitoring and Reporting 2) CG Effectiveness 3) CG Structure 4) Compliance.The company itself should select its key Corporate Governance indicators on the basis of their significance and from the point of its strategy. These performance indicators should facilitate the companies to prove the progress towards sustainability objectives and to guarantee their environmental, social and economic impact coverage. The application of key performance indicators in a particular organizational context can be demanding. The understanding of their application and most appropriate implementation into the internal management shall be necessary prior to company’s decision regarding the measures of key performance indicators. A case study on a sustainable alternative to the landfill disposal of spent foundry sand

Many small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are being forced to change the way they manage and dispose of waste. In part, this change has been due to the introduction of landfill taxes by the government, implemented to encourage companies to look at suitable and sustainable alternatives. This case study examines the application of key performance indicators (KPI) to monitor SMEs spent foundry sand (SFS) disposal over a one year period. Monitoring the KPI initiated a company investigation to reduce SFS disposal to landfill and promote its beneficial reuse. Several alternative methods for SFS reuse were examined and a successful partnership was established with an asphalt producer after it was established that SFS could be substituted for virgin sand in asphalt manufacture. In addition to providing cost savings, for both partners, the partnership enabled SFS to be beneficially reused with a potential extension of its useful working life to about 60 years.

ANALISIS PENGARUH KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR, PENETAPAN TARGET PAJAK, DAN JOB GRADE SYSTEM TERHADAP KINERJA KARYAWAN KPP PRATAMA KEBUMEN

The management performance is a process of ongoing communication which involves building hope and clear understanding of work functions that expect to be done by employees and how they give contribution to organizational goals. Employee performance in any organization is always running fluctuatively. It needs requiring the performance growth including in The tax Servicing Office (LTO) Pratama that influenced by the application of ‘key performance indicators, attention toward the tax decision and job grade system (system peningkatan pekerjaan) which has long been applied in the KPP Pratama Kebumen. The existence of this is the writer background to do the research titled ‘The Effect Analysis of ‘Key Performance Indicators, Tax Target Decision and Job Grade System toward The Employee Performance at The Tax Servicing office (Kantor Pelayanan Pajak (KPP)) Pratama Kebumen’
 
 The respondents were 30 employees who work at KPP Pratama Kebumen. The research uses descriptive method and quantitative analysis by SPSS 16:00. By quantitative methods, It tested by validity, reliability, the assumptions of classical testing, the analysis of multiple regression, hypothesis testing by using the test ‘t’ or test ‘f’. The hypothesis testing of the test ‘t’ shows that all variables have a significant effect on the performance except for the variable application of key performance indicators. Whereas the test ‘f’ results that the application of key performance indicator, tax target decision and job grade systems that have a significant effect to the employee performance of KPP Pratama Kebumen.
